Burnley has fought its way back into the title conversation of the Championship, just 2 points behind Leeds and Sheffield United. Wrexham experienced a surprising loss to Reading in midweek action of League 1 but rebounded with a victory over Wycombe over the weekend. The remaining playoff spot is up for grabs among four teams, with only a 2-point gap. Walsall has increased its lead at the top of League 2 back to 3 points, while positions 3 through 8 are only separated by a handful of points. For St. Paddy’s Day, the Sams enjoy Green Spot Pinot Finish and a pint of Guinness.

Premier League matchweek 29 “Dan Burn Jumps”

The Sams open with Newcastle winning their first domestic trophy in 70 years by beating Liverpool in the League Cup, thus ending the Reds' chances at a treble. There was still league action, and none of the teams in the drop zone could help themselves, with Wolves winning and increasing their lead to 9 points clear of safety. Brighton and City had the best match of the weekend, while Arsenal and Chelsea may have been the worst. The Sams enjoy number 6 on Whisky Advocate's Top 20 for 2024 with Booker's "Springfield." Highlights from the rest of the English Football League.
The Championship was wild as Burnley’s shutout streak came to an end. Sheffield has moved back to level on points with Leeds after they dropped 5 points, including a loss to Pompey. Wycombe and Wrexham are fighting for the other promotion spot in League 1, while Birmingham City is pulling ahead. Finally, in League 2, Walsall now has only a 2-point lead, and the fate of Morecambe and Carlisle is nearly sealed to drop out of the professional league.

Premier League matchweek 28 “Degrassi.”

The Sam’s opened with a masterclass victory over City in a crucial battle for the Champions League. United found a bit of inspiration to secure a point against Arsenal, potentially ruining their title chances. Villa and Brighton both claimed wins, while Bournemouth dropped points late against Spurs in the fight for Europe. Liverpool cruised to victory despite conceding first. Wolves earned a point, while Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich all suffered losses. The Sams enjoy number 8 on Whisky Advocate's Top 20 of 2024, the Glenmorangie 16-year Sauternes finish.

Highlights from the rest of the English Football League.
The Blades claw back a few points against Leeds in the Championship as little else changed. Birmingham City secured a definitive victory over Wycombe in their quest for the League 1 title, while Wrexham is in striking distance of automatic promotion. League 2 saw Walsall fall back to the pack, and Accy achieved a win over Tranmere but still isn’t fully safe from relegation. Finally, the Sam’s turn their attention to the FA Cup fifth round, which featured numerous red cards, penalty kicks, and only one big six club making it to the quarter-finals.

Premier League matchweek 27 “I do this for a living”

The Sam’s cover last mid-week’s action as every team in contention for Europe seems to not really want it. Villa got smashed at Palace, Brighton edged out Bournemouth, and Fulham still finds itself in the discussion. Liverpool dominated Newcastle and made the gap 13 points over Arsenal, who had a dud at Forest. Chelsea traded in their voucher. Everton and Brentford look tired. The O’s had a big win over Wrexham in Lg 1, and they check in on Reading and a potential sale. Finally, in Lg 2, Doncaster moves into second place but is still far from catching Walsall.

"First Bottle Job" : Premier League matchweek 26

The Sams begin with Liverpool’s rollercoaster week, which now places them 11 points ahead in the standings. They speculate whether Graham misses Malört now that the Gunners have lost in the league. It was tough for all three clubs at the bottom of the league to lose so decisively, while the Wolves pulled off an unexpected win at Bournemouth. Big Sam has wise advice for United supporters, and Newcastle’s victory over Forest was the standout moment of the weekend.
